![]() NWA hits the big screen... whoa! Pump your brakes and lets rewind for a minute all. For everyone 40+ we were fortunate enough to witness this evolution first hand. Twist open a 40 and enjoy this tale haha. The 80's were a music evolution: Heavy Metal, Punk, Death of Disco, Power Ballads, Break Dancing, Trendy Boy Bands, Rap and of course...Gangsta Rap. Enter NWA... Producers were no stranger to rap artists but never on this level. I remember artists who had radio airplay with words like 'sex, f#ck, n#gga, hoe' bleeped out for the good of listeners. It wasn't that we were mature enough to hear it but rather stations thought it was too edgy. If only they knew what was to come. NWA blew the doors off rules and regulations and did it their way. Local Cali artists like Too Short, DJ Quick and others were already in this underground click and ahead of the curve. To experience this movement firsthand is more than words can say. I remember cruising with friends after NWA released their debut album. Hell we thought we were gods and on top of the world.... finally a group that understands how we feel! Oh we're not even going to mention their first movie.... 'Boyz in the Hood' lol. How many of you felt like a boss after hearing the 'Shooting scene' theme? -James
