ABC sitcom Roseanne made an impressive return in March after a 20 year hiatus and showed signs of promise. The sharp tongue, quick witted, low income mom from hell that held #1 show in the 90's has been cancelled. Short version she made a tweet that was deemed offensive and network cancelled show.
Original series was cutting edge. No female during era pulled in that kind of cheddar for a wkly series and it was unheard of for networks to air a prime time show featuring politically incorrect poor people. Hmm.. did everything I could to keep from saying 'trailer trash' like the show constantly stated. Yes there were Beverly Hillbillies in 60's and Archie Bunker in 70's but most were too young to relate. Fast fwd a few decades to social media and infinite cable channels and we can replay these shows in an instant for a cult following. Sadly her smart mouth, curt wise cracking comments finally did her in.. not on the show but social media via Tweet. Reboot was steeped in controversy from beginning with Rosanne voicing she's a Trump supporter on show while sister Jackie for Obama. Trust me I was not swayed one way or other by this and we could go on forever about it. Personally I was a fan of Roseanne back in the day and even overlooked a lot of snafus in current premier. I.e. black infant grandchild, gender exploring grandchild, pill popping grandparents, etc. Imo they tried to capitalize on some of the shortcomings back in the day. Wise old adage says '..in trying to please everyone, you please no one'. Despite all this show still had good ratings.. until...
